The next step after becoming certified as an Open Water Diver is the Adventures in Diving Program. Apart from some exceptions, the first dive of a Specialty course is an Adventure Dive.

Complete 5 Adventure Dives, including Deep Diver and Underwater Navigator, to earn your Advanced Open Water Diver certification. Though Adventure Dives can be spaced out over several days of diving, this certification is typically earned in 2 days. It is taught at a ratio of 2 students per instructor.

A typical course starts with a Peak Performance Buoyancy dive, wherein you will increase your mastery of your underwater movements, dive in a more relaxed fashion, and reduce your gas consumption! The next dive is Underwater Navigation, which teaches you how to use your compass and natural cues to always know both where you are, and where you are headed. Day 2 begins with a Deep Dive between 18 and 30 meters, usually at Chumphon Pinnacle. During the Deep Dive, you will observe the changes in color, keep a close watch on your depth and air supply, and maybe feel the effects of narcosis! Then, you and your instructor may visit the HTMS Sattakut, veteran of the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa prior to beginning a distinguished career in the Royal Thai Navy as part of the Wreck Dive. On either night, you may participate in a Night Dive, usually considered the highlight of this course. After practicing communication and basic navigation with underwater lights, you will get to spend an evening with completely different marine life!

This course is perfectly complemented by the Enriched Air Diver Specialty course. Enriched Air (Nitrox) has a lower concentration of Nitrogen, which allows you to stay down longer without having to make decompression stops. It is of particular benefit during the Deep and Wreck dives. As this course is highly customizable, you have a choice of choosing to complete other dives to suit your tastes, with the exception of the Deep and Underwater Navigation dives.
